How we work

SED focuses on working with early-stage organisations or with new programmes in established organisations that have unique models for just transition and climate action.

The grants are strategically made to build collaborative networks across geographies. We aim at solving the problem through a multidimensional and systems approach, with each grant playing a key formative role.

PRINCIPLES OF OUR GRANTMAKING

We at SED aim for prosperous, sustainable economies that allow people to thrive while protecting our environment. Towards this goal, SED supports initiatives that will have the most substantial, inclusive and lasting impact. We do this through a flexible grant making process that prioritises approach of the grantee and values their knowledge of solutions on the ground.

Fund Innovative Programs

Large problems require great solutions. We support exciting new approaches with clearly defined outputs and outcomes

Enable Scale Support

Once we invest in an idea, we help strengthen both the idea and the organisation through Organisation Development support depending on grantee interest and need.

Provide Seed Funding

We provide seed capital to fresh ideas, co-developing concepts, strategies and implementation with our partners

Foster Collaboration

We believe in the power of ‘us’. We bring grantees and other stakeholders together through convenings, sessions and informal issue- focused conventions.

WORKSTREAMS

Our strategy towards just transition and climate action is executed through five key workstreams or fields of support. Every grant by SED Fund falls under one or more workstreams. Each workstream follows a framework including key indicators of success that are revised periodically based on SED's overall strategy and direction. As SED's mission is to bring about change through a systems-level approach, several of our grants cut across workstreams, based on the relevant areas of intervention.

  • Electricity

National and subnational support for policies and investments towards clean energy for all.

  • Workforce

Support a just and inclusive transition for communities working in the fossil fuel value chain towards a carbon free economy.

  • Finance

Improved understanding and investments in clean energy as an asset class.

  • Industry

Support policies, technologies and investments towards industrial energy transition to low carbon industry.

  • Diplomacy

Increased capacity, coordination, and cooperation at national and subnational level through international partnerships on energy transition.
